Fired by email & personality clashes

Avatar simplyfiredstories submitted 470 days ago
I started a contract at a client after interviewing with the
"interim manager", another engineer at the client company.
He was replaced with an east coast manager within a week.
I was on the west coast, at their local facility.

Things did not work out well.
I have the attitude that I will give my manager, in a polite and respectful
manner, the benefit of my experience (over 20 years at that point).
I als make it clear that I make no moral judgement on what they do
with my observations. After all, I could be absolutely correct,
and absolutely irrelevent because of something the manager knows
and I do not.
He was an east coast manager - engineers do not speak unless spoken to.

He fired me after a month - by email, with one weeks notice.
This is the first time I have ever been fired by email.
None of my peer group had ever heard of such a thing.

I asked for specific reasons.
I was able to write a letter rebutting all of his points
(mainly for the broker who placed me there) because I kept good notes
and knew a lot more about the system than he did.
However, I was happy to leave.

Turns out, he lasted on the west coast for only a few months.
He had problems with several other engineers.

I have been fired 3 times in my life - all personality related.
These things happen, and I later worked for two of those bosses in different
capacities.
This was the first time a firing manager did not have the guts
to do it to my face.
