Get Your Stuff And Get Out Out???
Even with going to school for Accounting, my chosen profession is convenient store management. I have over 25 years experience and believe it or not, I love the work.I held my last position for over 4 years. I started 6 months after the store opened, and doubled the sales every year. Believe customer service is what keeps people coming back and with 7 competitors in the area, I think I did a real good job at increasing the customer base.
I put in anywhere from 60 - 80 hours a week, always having to cover when someone did not show up for their shift.
My last day started as ususal. Checking all the competitors prices and calling in to the president of the company to give him my findings. He was 80 miles away and wasn't in the store for over 5 months.
After I give him the prices, he tells me to get my stuff and go work somewhere else. His reasons were the store was loosing money and I wasn't putting in enough hours.
I've worked over 31 years in my life, started at age 14 as a waitress for $1.05 an hour. Whenever I left a place, most would ask me to stay. Was never fired before and I practically lived in that store.
Having worked for them that long, the worse part of it all was he did it over the telephone.
I've heard they hired additional people since they fired me and are using 60 more hours a week to run the store now. Sales are going down too.
I'm relocating to West Virginia, any convenient stores that are looking for a manager, let me know, I miss the work and the people
