I was hired thru a temp agency to work at a collections agency, calling people who had reneged on their L.A. Times bills. But first, I had to be trained to do the job correctly, including governmental regulations about bill collecting. We new-hires were set up for a week-long class in bill collecting: 40 hours paid to sit and learn. It was great. Heh heh. The first two days covered the laws, which were basic enough. We were then tested, which test I aced. The last three days were frou-frou and fluff. This woman had nothing else to say. She mentioned having us listen in on other collection calls, but that never happened. Instead, when she ran out of steam at the end of the day, we played "Hangman." At the end, we were given our assignment and told that we weren't so much collecting as reminding these folk of their bills and the importance of paying them. After a week and half, I was fired for not collecting enough $$. But you said you didn't so much want me collecting $$ as reminding people. Yeah, never mind what we said. The call firing me came from the temp agency. I then had to figure out howto get my stuff back that was sitting at the company site. The only good thing was that when I got there, the one who gave me my stuff was the same woman who "taught" the class: I told her exactly why I was being fired.
