Fired by email (200 word entry)...read entries before rules...I'm fired!!
I applied for an accounting position with a small Community Services District. After three intense interviews (CFO?), I was employed as an accounting clerk. Employment exposed that there were problems with the District’s system (purchase orders completed AFTER purchases were made, leaving checks in an unlocked District truck for signatures). I did mention the problems on a couple of occasions but probationary recommendations were treated with little regard. The District had been doing business in this manner before I arrived; no need to change those practices because I saw a problem with them.In July I went through a weeklong illness and I discovered my answering machine was not recording complete messages. I did the next best thing…I sent an email. The GM responded by directing me to NOT come to the office and I should provide the password to the accounting system by email. The GM also stated he came to my home to deliver my termination letter and my final paycheck. I had, however, left home to seek further treatment for my condition. To my surprise the District emailed unencrypted letters acknowledging my illness, the GM’s visit to my home, and that my employment was terminated immediately.
