Contact with former co-workers good or bad?

At my former employer I had many friends and supporters. When axe dropped on me end of the day this past Monday at that time no other co-workers new about it. On the next day the word got out. From that point I have had quite a few calls from former co-workers who were shocked, asked what happened, why? They offered support and reference for me. They indicated the entire group insurance dept was in a tail-spin because of this and other employees are confused and very upset, scared for their own jobs (probably not as confused and upset as I am).

My question is and I am just wanting other peoples thoughts and experiences. Is above good for me or bad for me. In the end only I know how I feel but I am really confused at this moment. Part of me wants to still have contact in some manner with them and the other part of me wants to not have contact at all as it only reminds me of my former workplace, the culture, facilities and of course the re-living that horrible day.

Any comments on my above? Anyone had situation such as this before?
