Fired for bailing boss out of jail (Sep.2005 entry)!

I was fired for bailing my fat, drunken, naked old boss out of jail. It took place at gay pride in New York, 1990. I had just graduated from law school and was working for a solo practitioner in Greenwich Village. He was a nutjob. I had been working there for about a year when Gay Pride rolled around in June. He got raging drunk (he was hopped up on something else but I never cared enough to get the details on that) and picked up by the police for disorderly conduct (clearly he was one of those bad drunks who felt drunkeness and nakedness were symbiotic instead of repulsive...no impulse control whatsoever.) Unfortunately I lived in the village right around the corner from the 10th St. station where he was being held. He used his one phone call to call me...his lowly associate attorney. I felt obligated to go there and see what I could do to get him out. I also thought it would give me a nice bit of power over him. What a naive fool I was. To make a long story short, I bailed
him out, took him home on the subway (he actually threw up on my leg to add insult to injury) and put him to bed. The next day he never showed up at the office. I figured he was hung over and would be taking the day off anyway. I got home at the end of the day and there was an message on my answering machine from his secretary (who I had just spent the whole day with...the office was tiny for cyin' out loud!) saying my services were no longer needed. I called my boss at home and he said it would be too awkward for him to work with me after what 'we' went through (huh?) To add insult to injury: He never paid me back for the $500 bucks I put on retainer to get him out of jail...
