When I was 17 I wanted to get a summer job to make some spending money, so I started looking through the want ads, I found "Make extra money through telephone sales", sounded easy enough, so I went and interviewed and was hired on the spot. After 3 days of getting hung up on by people who didn't want to hear what I was selling my boss asked me if I would deliver a box to the "Corporate office", being bored from the phone I agreed to do it. My boss handed me a locked box and an envelope, saying that the envelope was for me, but not to open it till the end of the day. The corporate office ended up being a hotel room in the seedier part of town, and the person I delivered the box to could have been a character out of scarface. As I handed him the box he handed me another envelope and said that it was for me. I got back to the office and my boss said that I did a good job and handed me another envelope, and told me to take the rest of the day off. I got out to my car and started opening envelopes, the first contained $500 in cash, and the second had $700 and the third $1000. At first I was really pleased, a 17 year old with $2200 bucks!!!!!! but then I started wondering exactly what I had delivered and decided to ask my boss about it the following day. The next morning I headed into work, but when I arrived I found the door locked. I walked around the building looking in windows and the entire building was completely empty. I’ll never know what I delivered, and I’m not sure if what happened would be considered being “fired”, but that how I lost the most profitable job I’ve ever had.
