Last week I was terminated from my position as staff nurse at an assisted living facility. I was told I made "bad decisions." These decisions were never discussed with me. The days preceeding my termination I sent two residents to the hospital which ended up saving their lives. A very serious incident occured two weeks ago. A male resident attempted to hit over the head of a female resident a board 2 feet long, 3 inches thick, and with a 6 inch spike protruding out of the center. Another staff member managed to push her out of the way before being struck. I was outraged that the police were never notified!! This man should have been cuffed and arrested. He wasn't. I know where he went and it was our own staff who took him, not the police. I don't know where this man is today, but I pray he isn't allowed back into the community. He is very dangerous. Next time he could kill someone. I never made it a secret how I felt about the way in which this situation was handled and I feel this may have contributed to my being terminated. Because I could not live with the guilt of it all, I contacted the State Board of Health myself concerning this issue.
