Printer blues

I used to work at xxx as a technician for computer repairs until recently when I was fired for a customer complaint. What caused the complaint is why I’m sending you this story. The customer came into the store very irate because he could not get his printer to work. While speaking with the customer, another employee of the store asked me a technical question regarding his problem, to which I responded. The customer, who was not talking to me at the time, very rudely insisted that I was wrong, to which I replied that he did come into our store for help with the problem. At that point I walked away to help another customer. In a few minutes, I overheard the customer speaking with the original salesperson again and he called me a “fat *******” to the other salesperson loud enough that I could hear it. At that point I walked over and told the customer that I would not allow him to insult me and if he did not stop he would have to leave the store, to which he responded “why don’t you come out from behind that counter and make me, I have a black belt in karate and I will kick your ass.” He then continued to insult me, getting louder with each sentence. When another technician in the back heard the yelling, he came out to intervene and ask if he could help, to which the customer said “no, I’m talking with THIS axxxxxx” and points to me. The original salesperson tries to talk to the customer at which point the customer says to him that I am “lucky” the other salesperson came over because I “almost lost my life.” At this point, I say “I don’t have to take this from you, you punk-ass *****!” and left. At that point, having dropped all resemblances of courteous professionalism, I walked away and let the managers deal with the problem. The managers took my side of the story and asked the customer to leave, which he eventually did. I didn’t hear anything of the incident for about a month and a half and my managers didn’t do anything about the situation, so thinking it was over I went on working as usual. I then get called into the general managers’ office and told that the customer sent a letter to the corporate offices threatening to sue me personally and xxx for assault and he said I was “physically threatening” him, which I most certainly did not, but he also mentioned that I called him a “punk-ass *****”, quotes and all. Unfortunately, I did say that, and the corporate office said that I had to be fired for saying something like that, even though I had worked there for 2 and a half years and my immediate manager as well as the general manager of the store both said that the customer was the one who was completely out of line and they didn’t feel I should be fired. Suffice it to say, I became a personal hero to all of the technicians that have heard the story and have wanted to say this to every customer that came into the store with a chip on their shoulder, and they now secretly call them “punk-ass *****” in the back in light of my being fired. I guess being a xxx martyr isn’t all that bad!
