Fired over a printer (Sep.2005 entry)!

Avatar simplyfiredstories submitted 512 days ago
I was the regional manager for a waterproofing company. I went to visit a potential client one evening. I found that the client was a "wheeler dealer" type, so I made him an offer. I would knock $50 off of the cost of the job - a roughly $4000 job - in exchange for a brand new, in-the-box color printer for the office. I already had a little overage to play it safe, so I thought nothing more of it.
When the installers finished the job, the client handed them the printer. When they got back to the office, the boss thought I was making deals on the side for myself since I had forgotten to mention the deal to him. Even though I had led the 13 year old company to their most profitable 2 years at the time, I was let go. For a cheap $50 Canon printer.
