If it wasnt for bad luck I wouldnt have any at all

Eight years plus doing what I could to help my company and boss look good where this company has been in the news almost daily about personal excess by the CEO, etc. I always received an excellent review including letters from customers that loved me. One day ( working lunch ) I overheard the GM speaking with my boss about me and five minutes later my boss proclaimed loudly to an almost empty office that he "did not know what I did there anymore". I chose to ingnore him. There was redistributed work just prior to that so I spent free time absorbing my coworkers work.
The GM saw me before work or shift changes gathering excess work in others cubicles and took it for playtime. Duh, of course my boss was clueless.
Two weeks later I was called into HR and given the axe. laid off due to "Company Direction Change". I flabbergasted could only sign all the non-disclosures or not get any severance. Subsequently the worker I was supporting with my "playtime", well . . he quit. Ha ha. Now they went to the streets to replace them with a temp but I am still out a job.
