Its like a bad dream on acid.I was a top salesperson for an Insurance company for 9 years.Then came that day.I remember the words from my manager clearly,"Mike,it pains me to say it but I have to FIRE you."I still look back and think-PAIN,ya right,he was a sadistic jerk to begin with!He probably went home,beat his dog and got drunk or something.Ok,I admit-I had an "AFFAIR".Now lets be clear-not an office affair,just your plain-old, run of the mill extra-marital affair...with an 18 year old hotty.Did I mention I was 34? Apparently the company she was so hot.Anyhow,they said my "Conduct"(outside the office mind you)shed a bad image on the company. Now that's a BIG FAT Oxymoron."A bad image,"FOR AN INSURANCE COMPANY.Please!I spent 9 years being lumped into the same sleeze catagory with lawyers and used car salesman.I felt it a little ironic to be told I was casting a bad image on a company and industry that has BAD IMAGE plastered all over it.When I told my new manager(another i nsurance company)this same story he laughed and said"If we started firing everyone in OUR company for having an affair-there wouldn't be anyone left!"I am now employed once more.... Oh, and DIVORCED.
