Fired for wanting to work!
I was hired to replace a retiring employee at the Print Shop of the local College, and thought that I had found a the perfect job. I was making great money, I got discounted rates for attending the school, and I received an excellent benefits package. About 6 months into the job, the retiring employee came back to work, saying that she didn't like being home. At the time the Print Shop was busy enough to handle us both, but a short time later we lost a big account, and the work slowed way down. This Print Shop is a Union Shop, and everyone has a specific job that does not deviate. With the slow down, I tried to keep busy by doing other jobs in my department, but there was just not enough work to keep all of busy, and because of the Union I was not allowed to go work in another department without quiting from my job and getting re-hired in another. On my birthday, yes my BIRTHDAY, I get called into the manager's office and he tells me that he is letting me go. He tells me that because we are slow, they are cutting back, and since I wasn't happy in my own department I was first to go. I just wanted to work, I didn't really care in what department it was.About six months later the retiring employee, retired again, and I re-applyed for her job. I was told, after they hired someone else, that they do not re-hire.
