Found out about firing by watching TV!
Enjoying my day off, I smiled as I drove home from the grocery store.
Anticipating a relaxing night, I tuned in the television upon entering my door.
Dinner was simmering on the stove when my phone began to ring...
I answered the call euphorically, almost as if to sing.
"Hello." I crooned in a joyous state, expecting an equal reply.
"Tune in the news quickly now! Don't take off your eye!"
"Your place of work has announced a closing...you're booted! Out the door!
I hope you have a back-up plan or you'll end up on the unemployment floor!"
Phone in hand, I stood frozen...then running for the dial...
Turning the channel, I saw the news reporter (with the usual, perpetual smile).
"We're breaking a story about a closing here in The Northland!"
"400 people soon out of work. Raising unemployment across the land."
The interviewer stopped my coworkers, asking for a comment.
Like deer in headlights, they stood in shock...looking as if they'd vomit!
Not one soul knew before the news our careers would end that day.
What followed next was a "You're Fired" letter...I've been on unemployment since May!
