If only I wouldn't have bought a gift for my dad
Year was 1986 and I was 17 working at a small video rental store, the boss had just given me 2 new store shirts and the keys to open the store and run it for the day. He said I was working out great.
Until.. My best friend talked me into going to Disney Epcot in Orlando, Florida about 2 hours away from where I lived and the where the store was.
The store was to open at 11am on a Sunday and I was already at Epcot by 9am then called into the boss to say I was sick. Can't come in, I'm feeling horrible (cough) (cough). The boss then says - you have the keys to the store, you need to come in to at least open the store and wait for another co-worker to arrive to take over until he could get there. I'm like - uh.. sorry i'm really sick, can't make there.
So, the day goes on and I have a great time at Disney and then on my out of the park I decide to buy my dad a coffee cup with the Disney Epcot logo on it. Well, my dad was a high school teacher at the time. He had the cup on his desk the next day and a student had asked him. "Hey Mr. Q, where did you get the new coffee cup?" Oh, my son got it for me from Disney Epcot yesterday.
Well the student also worked at the video store, told the boss, and then I got fired the next day.
If you're going to play hooky from work - don't buy any gifts for anybody !!
