Picture it - Circa 1985 - You have a mop & (apparently) an attitude
There I am new to college and part of the work-study program. You know the deal, work for the school and get money to pay for tuition and books. They have all sorts of jobs -
- - check in books at the library
- - work outside planting flowers
- - make copies in the finance office
- - answer the phone and give directions in the main Administration building
- - or the creme-de-la-creme - work in the University bookstore pricing sweatshirts and chatting with your friends.
What do I get? Janitorial Services for the Student Union!
Now, don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the job. However, I was never good at cleaning up my room (just ask my mom). Now, I am suppose to clean-up the Student Union!
Do you know what kinda pigs go to college?!?! Hey, it's not your house and heck your mom's not there telling you to pick-up your stuff.
So there I am every Saturday trying to sweep and mop the floor while people with scholarships and "Daddy's money" are trying to play ping-pong and dripping cheese fries on my clean floor! Aaaahhhh!!!
I lasted about two months. They were very nice when they told me I was fired. Said, I wasn't really cut out for the job. No kidding!
I did graduate (on the Dean's List) with a BBA. Now I have a great job with no ping-pong or cheese fries involved. :)
