Fired for working for a lunatic
I was fired because:Working for a small web hosting company, thebook.com, I always gave 110% - even running the business out of my home for a month. My boss was a total and complete control freak. Everything had to be done his way, even if my way was more effective. He was always quick to preach able having to live up to the consequences of one's actions. He was always quick to tell me how I wasn't meeting his standards, but I guess when it came time for him to look in a mirror, he must have went blind.
After loosing claim after claim in a bitter divorce suit, he decided the way to draw attention to his plight was to start getting himself arrested. He went through his divorce without a lawyer because he felt that he could handle it. He was always quick to cry that he couldn't afford it, but I was always convinced that it was his controlling attitude that kept him from hiring an attorney. After loosing his divorce miserably, he decided he was going to try to fight the whole divorce court system.
He started off by refusing to leave his house after the divorce judge ordered that the house be sold. He was facing eviction and like an idiot, I offered up my spare bedroom as a temporary home for the business. (I needed the job and at the time, I would have done just about anything to keep it.) We moved all the computer equipment into my spare room and then he went back to the house to wait for the deputies to show up and evict him. He was arrested and thrown in jail. After sitting in jail for nearly a month, he finally released and I got my spare bedroom back.
After this, he started an organization, kidsright.org, which was aimed at family law reform. The truth behind kidsright.org was that he was nothing more than a sore loser who could not accept the fact that he lost his divorce. He took advantage of other parents who really had been screwed by the family court system to try to advance his own adgenda.
His next bright idea was carrying a picket sign throughout a local courthouse where picketing was forbidden. They would arrest him, throw him in jail for the night and usually release him the next day. That wasn't getting enough attention, so he moves on to greener pastures, the local federal building.
He started protesting at the federal building itself, but soon targeted our local state senator, Hillary Clinton. Senator Clinton apparently saw through his act and saw him for the idiot that he truely is. He would protest at the federal building, get thrown in jail over night, and usually was released the next day. Some where along the way he spent 6 months in jail at one stretch because in addition to being an IDIOT, he was also a DEAD BEAT DAD, who wasn't paying a dime in child support.
After an estimated 300 nights in jail, I finally said enough is enough. I felt like screaming at him "WTF? how long before you get it??" One of the judges apparently saw it the same way and during his sentencing, suggested that my boss take the time to read "Don Quixote" because he thought John was wasting his time fighting windmills.
During this time, he escalated his divorce appeal all the way to the NY State supreme court - claiming that he was denied his right to a jury of his peers. DUH!! A trial by jusy is only guarenteed for CRIMINAL cases!! He was still a sore loser and just couldn't accept that he lost. GET A LIFE and move on with it!!
This finally all came to a head in August of 2003. I had a vacation scheduled for 3 months. After he gets back from his 6 week vacation, he drops the bomb on me that he plans on picketing again, while I was going to be 900 miles away (and the only source of tech support for his company). I told him that I didn't think it was really fair, that according to his own vacation policy, when I was on vacation, he was the primary tech and vica versa. His only reaction to this was "You'll have to work this out with XXX (the other employee)."
After proposing that he just postpone his protesting until after I returned from vacation, I was left with no alternative except to tell him that I wasn't going to be "on call" while I was on vacation. I walked in the following monday to a termination letter was was told "You're Fired!".
Almost 2 years later, I have FINALLY won my final court case with NY State Dept of Labor, because after he fired me, he fought my ability to claim unemployment.
