Fired for reporting drunken co-worker!
I worked for a year as a webmaster for a company in Georgia. The Marketing guy (I'll call him "Dick") was an old PR/Marketing dinosaur. He used to make me print out the website on paper, and then complained if certain copy or images were "below the fold", as if a printed website needed to follow the guidelines of printed brochures!"Dick" would mark up his paper copy of the website with changes, and also would mark up the online status report I kept so my boss and "Dick" could track changes I was making to the site. He would meet with me almost every morning, reeking of booze, hands shaking, to go over the website and what he percieved as major issues: the way the site was printed out, why images were in a certain place on paper, etc. "Dick" never quite got it that it only matters how it looks online, not on paper for reference purposes.
The final straw was a horrible trip to New York and CT with my boss and "Dick". "Dick" drove us to CT from the NY airport, and both my boss and I later commented that we "Dick's" driving was so bad, we thought we were going to die! It finally reached the point where I met with my boss and an HR rep to discuss the fact that "Dick" was showing up for meetings at 8 a.m. smelling like a liquor store. My boss confirmed that he had smelled booze on "Dick's" breath previously on numerous occasions. He asked me what I wanted to do, and I said I just wanted them to be aware, as "Dick" was driving clients around in his car.
A month after this meeting, I was told I wasn't performing up to standard, and was being let go. "Dick" remained. Then a year later, the entire office closed and everyone else was out of a job since the company moved everything back up north. Ha!
