My Contest Entry....

Well up until I graduated from college and started working in the real world, I had NEVER been fired. I had thought that as long as you showed up and did your job well, you didn't have to worry about that. I was about to learn a hard lesson. I graduated college with a degree in Business and Majored in Marketing. At that time, I thought getting into Marketing was the way to go, but I knew I wasn't really outgoing enough to be a salesperson, so I opted for a less stressful job (or so I thought). I took a Marketing Research Position. I thought it was perfect for me. All I would have to do is call people and get them to do surveys...no big deal, right? We would be given lists of random phone numbers and we would have to call every number on the list. If it was a business, we had to politely end the call. If the caller refused the survey, we had to note it and if we got no answer, we had to note that as well. I never dreamed that job would make me miserable. It lasted about 6 months. I did the best I could, but eventually the stress ate me up. I was having to take Tums (yes, antacids....) DAILY. I think I bought a new bottle weekly or every other week at the least. I think the worst part was the responses you would get from people. It was hard to listen to hang up after hang up or someone yelling at you thinking that you were trying to sell them something OR for interrupting their dinner or tv show. It became so difficult to go to work at all. At that time, my supervisor was working at another office. She called me one afternoon and I knew something was wrong by the tone of her voice. I don't think she wanted to do it, but she saw what was happening to me and I am sure my numbers were not that great. She went on to say how she knew I was not happy and that she didn't think she could keep me anymore. She was firing me OVER THE PHONE! She was just across town and could of come done it in person, but no....she fired me over the phone. Amazing. I remember crying all the way home. In some ways, it was a good thing....a blessing in disguise. I was able to find a job in a completely different industry which led me to my current job that I have had for over 6 years. NO, I can't say it is the perfect job.....but I can say that I no longer need Tums to make it through the day.

Thanks for the contest! :)
