fired for trying to commit suicide

I was fired from my job as a nurse for trying to commit suicide. I was in an abusive relationship, depressed and thought I had no choice. When I went back to work, about a week after I got out of the hospital, I got written up for improper use of medications, and subsequebtly fired. The official version they gave me was "what if there was an incident involvoing you while you were at work and someone found out about your background"? On the comment part of the form, alls I could think to write was that the medication was mine prescribed to be by my doctor. I even called into work while I was in the hospital to let them know I wasn't well and would be off for a bit.
I contacted an attorney about the issue, and he said I had a good case, but I was too much of a mess to persue it.
