Offhandedly fired

Avatar ridgerunner submitted 471 days ago
I worked for a construction company and drove their lowboy truck hauling equipment. I had worked there days, evenings and weekends averaging 65-70 hours per week for two years. One day another employee asked me to haul a piece of equipment for him the next day (Saturday). I told him that I wouldn't move it for him because I had asked for and recieved permission to have that day off, plus I had already set it up with another driver to fill in and cover my shift for me which he did. On Sunday evening, the boss called me and said to meet him at the shop monday morning. When I arrived there the next morning the first thing I noticed is the lowboy truck is gone. My boss then tells me I'm fired because he had heard that I would no longer work evenings or weekends again. I had never said that! So without asking me if it were true, I was out of a job. I tried to start my own trucking company, but the price of fuel ran me out. So I swallowed my pride and called my old boss back for a job and he rehired me. But now I am making a dollar an hour less than I was making but at Least I'm working and paying bills.
