Fired while on FMLA

I was working at a very popular retail store that has stores nationwide. In July of this year my wife had a miscarriage, it was not her first one. We have a 2 year old child as well. I filled out personal leave because she had to have surgery because of an infection from it. The next day I had to call 911 due to my wife attempting suicide. I called my work and told them what happened and needed to extend my personal leave. They said it was okay. My wife was admitted to a hospital about 3 hours away and I stay at a place down there with our son. She is released 3 or 4 days later. We get back to our home and settle in. She is not yet deemed capable of being alone with our son or by herself...period.

I call work and make sure everything is up to day for my leave. Under FMLA I can have up to 12 weeks, I was on week 3. A week later my wife is readmitted to another hospital and is there for a week. I call work and update them on the situation. I handed in all my paperwork for it and everything. They said everything was up to date and okay. That was August 24th. My wife is discharged and is okay for now. I go to get back onto the schedule. My boss tells me I need to talk to HR. I go and talk to HR. HR says I need to go talk to my boss. I go back and forth. FINALLY they tell me I was terminated on August 20th!!!! They not only lied to me about me still having a job, they also fired me while on FMLA. They did not give me a reason for it. I almost couldn't get unemployment because you have to file within 3 days of being terminated, I didn't find out until it had been over 2 weeks. So now I am trying to find a new job to support my wife, son and me since she can't work (Her disability is pending).
