I started working at a gas station when I was 16 as a cashier. When I was 19 I was moved to a different location and worked on a daily basis with the General Manager. I had never spoken with her over the phone before which would explain why I made it there for so long. I used a different voice for phone conversations which worked well for me as it disguised my age and made me, to my own ears, sound more proffesional. My manager assured me I did sound far more proffesional. However, for my own protection since my telephone voice couldn't be changed, I was let go. The problem was, I sounded like my proffesion was a sex operator.
