Stabbed in the Back

Back in November of '06, a "friend" offered me a job in his company because he knew I was unhappy in retail. Now, I knew this guy for about 7 years, and I knew his wife for 17, even stood in their wedding. During the interview he told me it was a laid-back, no-stress company, lots of room for advancement, stuff like that. Needless to say, I really did hate retail and took the job no question.

Well, for the six months I was at this laid-back, no-stress company here is what my boss/friend did to me:
-Would constantly humiliate me in front of vendors and staff.
-Would call me a failure when things weren't done to his liking.
-Threatened to demote me if I ever thought about calling in sick.
-Would refuse to answer questions, and when I came up with my own answer, he would humiliate and correct me.
-Lied to me on a daily basis...things like "You're pretty high on the organizational chart" (which I wasn't even on).

Well here's the kicker: One day he decided to clean my desk and throw away all my paperwork and projects. About two months later, he tells me he's letting me go because those projects weren't done. Not to mention he accused me of not letting him know I was having problems. Overall, I was "not the person" for the job. And this was after a positive performance review and a lengthy discussion about my future with the company.

5 months later I was working again, and I left a message on his phone telling him never to contact me again because he is "not the person" I want to associate with.

Moral of the story? Never work for friends. I guess I should be thankful though, if I had stayed there any longer I might have had a stress-enduced heart attack (which wouldn't have been good because they screwed up my health insurance).
