My fake boss fired me for being sick
As of about 2 hours ago I worked for a Credit Union that doesnt stand for anything they claim to be. Here is my story of walking into work and being blindsided with termination.I worked with this company for only 2 months. I should have known from the start that this was going to turn out bad, but I am only 21 years old and I tend to trust people a little too much. Unfortunately for reasons beyond my control, this past winter of 07 and the beginning of January 08 havent been too good to me health wise. I missed one day because of pink eye in December my nice boss at the time told me to not worry about it and to come in when it was all better. Great, wonderful, I actually LIKED HER! Come to find out, she was getting promoted and would no longer be at our Branch, and my new liar of a boss was going to take over the start of January 08. This 27year old girl was on a HUGE power trip. All she ever talked about was how shes getting married and how much "fun" we were going to have at our new branch opening up in March. She was a liar and a fake and I should have seen this from the start but didnt. The 2nd week into January I got sick, temp...cough...you name it I was a mess. I STILL came into work to prove to them that I was actually sick and wasnt faking it and they sent me home and told me to come back the following monday the 14th. I thought that was a little too nice but of course took that time and got better. THEN it happened. Jan 22nd got very very sick again. This time the docter said I had chronic bronchitis and on top of that I caught the flu. I of course missed a full week of work due to the fact that my docter said I NEEDED rest. I called my fakeass boss to tell her that I was very sick and that I felt horrible missing all this work because I was fairly new to the company. This is what she told me, "Dont worry about it hunny, all that matters is that you get well. Your no good to us sick so take as much time as you need to get better and let me know when you'll be back. In the mean time just fax over your docters note to HR so they can have it on file." I was so thankful that she understood and soon got back in touch with her to let her know that I would be back to work on Tuesday the 29th. Well today...Tuesday the 29th rolled around and I got to work about 15 minutes early. She let me into the Branch and told me that we had a meeting with HR. I walked into that room and was told to sit down. "Hello Amy...we are here due to your termination." Im like "WAIT WHAAAAT??" He goes on to tell me that they are firing me due to "Excessive Absences" and that this is effective immediately. Of course Im in complete shock due to the fact that I was just told 3 days ago that everything was ok and all I needed to do was to fax my docters note which I had already done. I looked at him like a deer in the headlights and said "Im getting fired because I was sick? I had a 104degree temperature and was in the hospital...this is why I am being fired??" He totally ignored me and started shoving papers in my face telling me to sign and then to leave at once. I couldnt believe it!!!!! While all this going on my little dumbass boss is sitting there with the biggest smirk on her face. That bitch had lied to me saying that everything was going to be ok and she was the one behind all this!! The dates on the papers said 1/25/08 that means this decision was made WHILE I was in the hospital. Unbelievable!! Heres the best part though. The HR guy had HER walk me out...like a 120lb girl is a huge threat...what would I be capable of doing come on!? She then says to me while we're walking to the door "So...how are you feeling?" I couldnt believe she asked me that stupid of a question!!! I say "Well how do you think I feel after that???" She goes "No I mean your sickness...are you feeling better?" HAHAHAAHA I didnt say a word because she was being a smartass and thought she was soo damn funny!!! How dare she ya know?? Come to find out, one of my friends who works in another Dept. said that the VP of HR sent out an email to every single co-worker telling them of my termination and to not let me in the building if they see me. HAHA It just keeps getting better and better!!! Im going to take this as a lesson learned because no matter how much you want to believe it, your boss does NOT care about your health, and they will lie to save their own ass in the end!!

I was also fired for being sick before. I was in the hospital for multiple surgeries and illnesses, one was even life threatening! Of course they didn't care and fired me. Jobs that pay little compensation with hardly any benefits really don't care about it's employees at all!
I feel ya!! I am just in shock though!! My boss lied to me constantly saying everything was fine and then today BOOM they let me go lol unreal. Thanks for the comment though, it makes me feel a lot better knowing Im not the only one!
I am in the same boat. I was out for two weeks from the flu. This company was new to us as of 1/1/08. I had worked there for a 10 months before they took over. We were never informed of their call in procedures. As a matter of fact, in January ( after they took over) I had dental work and I called in the same way I did for the first three days when I had the flu. You guested is right, they didn't have a problem with it then. When I did talk to them on the phone, they told me," that I was inappropriate for not answering my home phone( that is my personal phone) ." For God sake I was very ill. I also ended up in the ER. The flu isn't somthing to play with. I went back to work and they had sent me home for two weeks, even though I was 20 lbs lighter and feeling a little week and had some lingerinf flu sypmtoms., they had sent me home for a couple of days to get some rest. I went back to work after a couple of days( even emailed him, thanking him) . I was sent home (For two weeks). You should have your home phone in your bedroom," They told me. I than said, who are you to tell me where I should place my house phone? "Than he the ( power control boss) called me at home on 2/28/08 and said, " That he doesn't feel that I will be a fit, since I didn't call in sick daily, was trained differently by the previous employer and the fact that I didn't call in every day." I informed him tha there is no law that says that I have to call in daily and it's not in your employee handbook. They have refused to see the Urgent care report and the ER report. He basically told me he wasn't going to pay me for sending me home for two weeks. What a deal!!!! What do us employees do agianst people that are contolling, out of control for violating the employees rights when they are under the Familia Act? DOCUMENT AND NEVER GIVE UP YOUR ORIGINALS( THEY CAN BE TAMPERED WITH). I am thankful for having a digit al able, I can retrieve my incoming and outgoing phone calls. Yes, there may be minor glitches, but it's worth it. I have the documentation to show that I called them and emailed them on a regular basis.

I say, contact yor local Human Rights Dept. and don't give up....I am in it for the long hall. I can submit documentation from callling in and the numerous phones calls they sent me and the Dr.s report. Who is in control now?
