Fired during Holiday Vacation
Does it get any worse than this people?About two months ago I met with this Realtor that seemed like an ambitious driven person with big plans in need of a "Keeper". I accepted her offer of employment and began working 2 wks later. Being the determined and loyal person I am I worked my ass off everyday for the past month working a minimum of 50 hours a week even though she only paid me for 35 hours. I was a little foolish and will admit to excusing many questionable things and all the long hours to my desire to succeed. The hard work and long hours I put in did not go unnoticed. I was met with appreciation and tons of praise. My hard work was paying off, at least I thought.
We met for lunch to discuss the holiday schedule and she told I would be off from Dec 24th and return Jan 3rd. We agreed she'd pay me for the two weeks so long as I would work from home on the 27th & 28th of Dec as well as Jan 2nd. On Xmas Eve she called me to tell me that she is bringing me a gift to my home. There was a small gift with a card telling me how I am her angel and how pleased she is to have me around. This was really a disguise for the folder of work she gave me to review. (Umm giving work disguised as a gift is a little bit Grinch, no?)
So I worked the 27th & 28th as well as Dec 30th. On the Dec 31st I received an email from her telling me I was falling behind in my work so i would need to come in on the 2nd. I replied back telling her all of the tasks she wanted to me to complete were done but we needed to clarify what day I had to return to work. I notified her I had already made plans on the 2nd of Jan to go out of town with my husband and sister that was visting from another country otherwise I would not have had a problem with that day. She replied saying it would be "great" if I could come in on the 2nd as she was expecting a lot more to get done from me working at home.
I called her, left a message saying I would not be in but please contact me with the work that needed to be complete. She returned my call on the morning of Jan 2nd to tell me she reevaluated somethings over the holiday and determined we were not a good fit and was terminating my employment. WTF no warning of this coming my way at all. How much of a coward can you be to fire someone over the phone on the First of the New Year during their vacation.
So confused anyone have any advice. Can this be wrongful termination since she never provided me a reason for my termination?
