The story begins 4 months ago.......
A supervisor position was filled in the inspection department by a unexperienced young individual. He stated, "I'm new to inspection so please help me." He made this announcement in front of 15 top notched inspectors. I silently asked myself, why would I want to teach him how to do my job so that he could turn around and tell me how to do my job? Obviously we all know our job functions? About a month goes by and he called me in the office to inform me that I would be starting 2nd shift. I told him I had responsibilities at night and that it was stated on my application for employment. 2nd shift was not an option. He said, "the company would need to terminate my employment if I didn't switch." I replied calmly in his anger, "I'm was not afraid of losing my job and that I would seek employment elsewhere in the future if I was to be kept on that shift." So after a couple months on 2nd shift, I landed a supervisor position at a competitive company. I accepted the job after negotiating a 60% increase in pay. I was almost ready to turn in my letter of resignation when I discovered that a lay off was about to impacted 25% of the employees. So instead of giving my 2 weeks notice, I calmly waited. Sure enough, since I wasn't his favorite employee, I was laid-off. Given 2 weeks pay and a healthy separation check but I still had an ace up my sleeve as he had the biggest smile on his face. After the lay-off paper work was signed, I thanked my old boss and said, "well, you saved me the time and effort to give you this. I guess you can throw it away for me." His face became puzzled as I reached into my left beast pocket, pulled out the letter of resignation dated for the next day which made it no good. I handed it to him. His face became intensely red while he read it. I left him there staring at the letter. His face in anger, as I walked out his office laughing tears from my eyes. My new job starts on Monday and the separation is noted as laid-off, as shown above.
