Milkyway Thief!

Ok so, this is a little long, but, if i can help other people feel better about why they've been fired, then i can post this, so everyone can laugh at my stupidity =]

i worked at a large grocery store chain in the east coast, as a cashier and a store clerk. one particular hot sunday afternoon, (after leaving church i might add) i was scheduled 1-5 as a store clerk, out collecting carts and all other undesirable work that goes with it. I was asked by my boss to work later until 7 o'clock, and since id be getting paid extra, i said that i would. i collected baskets inside, got a cold drink from the water fountain, and went outside into the hot weather, and collected about 20-30 carts. i really started to feel the heat, and was getting tired, since i didnt get much sleep the night before. I wanted to get some quicky energy, so my amazingly bright idea was to take a breather for a couple minutes. and by breather, i mean stealing a milky way bar and listening to my ipod in the bathroom for about 10 minutes. i only had one dollar to spend, and hey, ive done it before, what will taking one more hurt?? well with my amazing luck, i was somehow caught stealing the milky way, and i was called over the intercom to go to the managers office with my boss. i asked if i was in trouble, and the response by my boss, was "i dunno..." my manager then asked, what i was doing with the milky way bar, and i knew i was done for.

after a lot of somewhat awkward conversation and honest answers, except for a lie about how many candy bars ive stolen, (4 over the year i ve worked there) the store manager told me that what i did was grounds for termination, made me give him my uniform, and made me call my mom, and tell her i was fired for stealing a candy bar, while my boss AND my manager just listened to my mother curse me out over the phone. after it was all said and done, i said thanks, for having me work here, and i know it wont do much now, but heres a dollar to replace the milky way. but instead of just making it easy for me, the manager added insult to injury by making my boss take me to where i found the milky way bar, get a new one, and pay for it. and as irony would have it, the candy cost only a f@$&in 59 cents.

Even after donating to their little charities, spending atleast 30 bucks a week there on food, they fired me over 59 cents. talk about a slap in the face. luckily, i wont be reported for it, since it was 59 cents.

so much for my breather..

The managers were a little harsh but you probably shouldn't have stolen the candy bar in the first place. Rule number one on any job is don't steal or you risk the axe...

You are very lucky they didn't prosecute you for shoplifting. You could have gone to jail and ruined the rest of your life over a .59 cent candy bar. Not too bright.

They're right, stealing is stealing, whether it's a 59 cent candy bar or something bigger. Don't list your ex-boss as a reference or you might have a hard time getting another job.
