The boss from Hell

Avatar almost60 submitted 516 days ago
I was working in a call center for a company that will remain nameless, just let me tell you that I worked there for almost 6 years, I was an excellent employee never late and didn't call in sick very often, never reprimanded and always did my job as required when you deal with the public.

Exactly 2 Yrs ago today I was leaving to go to work and as I was walking to get to the car I fell from the stairs and I twisted my ankle, despite the pain I proceeded to go to work because I there was only one person at the office.
I managed to get to the office and told my co-worker what had happened and showed my swelling ankle, the supervisor was off and I called about 7 times, left messages and there was no response, therefore I left to go to the doctor and take care of the problem then I went back to work and finished my shift I had to close the office that Day.

I went home and finally about 10:00 the supervisor called me and gave me the next day off.
I continue working for about one week then I went to the doctor because my foot still hurt and the swelling didn't go down. My doctor told me to take time off and the supervisor gave me 2 days off.

When I comeback to work the supervisor didn't speak to me
at all I thought that is strange? But I didn't concern myself with it because I knew her and more often then not she was moody specially when she had a fight with her husband.

Two days later a Friday she called me to the conference room and there was the Legal Affairs Lawyer and he handed me a letter telling me I was fired because my employment was at-will and they could let me go anytime without explanation I was handed my last paycheck then I left.
I believe that they fired me for several reasons:
1-My insurance was costing them over $800.00 a month which my supervisor had mentioned to me in several occasions and not to use it to much.
2- I was the only person over 40 yrs old and the supervisor favors younger people between 18 and 35.
3- The supervisor always is asking employees to house-sit and take care of her pets while she goes on trips, she asked me once and I declined.
4- She decided she wanted to learn Spanish and was going to school then she came into the office and pestered me to help her with her homework because I'm fluent in Spanish I told her that I did not like to teach and that had nothing to do with my job requirements.
In other words I believe I was fired because I didn't kiss her A.....

    Hi,

don't missunderstand me, but I will tell you my opinion straight up. She was right to fired you. It is not about kissing the boss' ass. It's about your attitude. Youself said right at the beginning, you were an excellent employee, but later on you say, you didn't call sick too often. There we see, you probably stayed home, half sick and you didn't take your strength to work. Then you were taking these 800 Montly insurance cost more than you were supposed to take. Then, if someone asks you a favor to do, because they don't have much time, you declined to help. Do you believe that is asskissin? Hey!? You wrote you would know her, that means you saw her as a friend. Why couldn't you take care of her pet? She was trusting you. Your boss trusted you so much, she even pleased you to help her in Spanish, but you had to be so selfish and arrogant you did not want to help her. Sorry sir, but you desirved to be fired from that business. If I would ever had such an employee like you, I would have looked for a replacement.

    Hello; Gornom

Did you read the story? you missing a lot and I understand you perfectly. You have a right to your opinion so do I, therefore here it is:

You probably are a boss who like to take advantage of your employees we have the right to say no when we are asked to do things that have nothing to do with our jobs, and probably you only have part-time workers so you don't have to pay for health insurance.

Furthermore I believe that you like your employees to kiss your A...and if they don't you probably retaliate by firing them.

    hello almost 60

you already feel awful for being fired, when your boss is unreasonable - you didnt need some jerk telling you it was justified. i do believe in karma, that what goes around comes around thing, but all i see are very malicious, insecure supervisors, who become so by their little bit of power, and the worst - by being some managers or exec's "friend" . i have been affected by 3 in my life time. and i do a or should i say did an excellent job. i wouldnt call it ass kissing, i would call it submission. i felt like a battered wife at work, and im kinda glad they fired me, altho i couldnt sleep at all last night. good luck to you, and never mind comments from mean people - just another asshole like your ridiculous boss!

      Hello jellybean

I appreciate your understanding, you nailed by saying " insecure supervisors, who become so by their little bit of power, and the worst - by being some managers or exec's "friend".

My supervisor was recommended to the job she holds by the Legal Affairs Lawyer because him and his wife are her friends.

It looks like you just got fired and is not a nice feeling but everything in life is temporary it will pass.

      Good luck to you too.

    Dear Gorman:

You are much better off not working for the "boss from hell". Asking her team members to do personal favors without compensation is inappropriate and unprofessional; you had every right to say no. The boss from hell is abusive.

    Hello sagethymes:

Who is Gorman? did you mean to direct your comment to Almost 60? Yes I'm much better not working for the "boss from hell". Since then my health has improved and no longer have high blood pressure I hardly go to the doctor just for check-ups every 4 months.

    Hey Almost 60,

I know how it feels to be picked on and fired for not sucking up to your boss, been there done that. I just wanted to say that your ex-boss didn't deserve to have you working for her. And I think that you are way better off without her than she is without you. Think about it "MOST" people don't learn any job ethics until they are in their 30's of 40's anyway so I'm sure whoever she got to replace you is late unprofessional and costs the "boss from hell" way more money, time and effort than what she had to spend on you.

Plus now she has to train someone to fill your shoes, probably more than once. So by her being such an Evil B*@*#

the only one she hurt in the long run was herself cause like you said you are doing much better health wise since she fired you so I think she did you a favor, Cause now you don't have to deal with Her any more!!!!!!!!

    And Gorman,

I think you are just an ignoramus of course an EMPLOYEE has every right not to do NON work related tasks if that's what they CHOOSE to do, they are hired to work for you not be your SLAVE. Also you should take a class in appropriate and professional employer-employee relations. It is not OK for your boss to ask you to do ANYTHING that is not related to the job you were hired to do. And I don't think that Almost60 was hired to babysit her bosses dog, so she had every right to say No. That has nothing to do with her attitude, it has to do with her boss trying to get something for nothing! I'm sure the boss wasn't going to pay her extra for the extra work so why should she feel obligated to do something she doesn't feel is in her job description????

Why does this feel like the call centre I worked at, or maybe all call centres are like this...

    • Avatar | written by almost60 491 days ago

      HI goddessxx,

Maybe we were co-workers and we both got fired by the same witch if you worked in L.A.

If you have any more medical bills, they still have to pay for it. It might even be a workers comp case.
