I had been in the mortgage industry for about seven years and was employed by a company that was bought out by Washington Mutual. It was easy to see early on that as much as it said it's greatest asset was its employees, they did not practice what they preached in the least. It was not uncommon for the HR Nazis, accompanied by guards, to enter a department and announce that the employees had 15 minutes to pack their belongings and depart the building. There never seemed to be any rhyme or reason, which was the worst. My personal experience though was they morning that I was called to the conference room and as soon as I saw the HR Nazi sitting there I knew that I was being fired, I just didn't know for what. It all seemed very odd. Without exaggeration, I had been the highest producer for my department for seven years. I would be in the office and working at 5:00 AM most days and it wasn't uncommon to be there on holidays. It's not like I wasn't working. Anyway, as I sat down, my immediate supervisor explained that I was being fired due to the fact that I had forwarded and e-mail (that had been forwarded to me by another employees within the company) and because of the content of the e-mail. Specifically, the e-mail was a joke and at the bottom of the joke there was a little cartoon drawing a man and he was bent over with his pants dropped and you saw his little cartoon butt. I started laughing...what else was I going to do? I was informed that I had to leave the building at once and I stated that I was going to my desk to get my things. I let them know that my keys to my car were at my desk and that I wasn't going to walk home from there. They didn't care, they said that if I didn;t leave at once they would call the authorities. So, I went to my desk and packed my things. What were they going to do...fire me again?
that is insane... why would they act like that? It sounds to me that they were looking for excuses to fire people. Perhaps if you were to look at the overall history since the buyout you would find that they wittled away all "non-essential" personnell untill they had only managers and thus controled the market in your area but using their own people.... I wouldnt feel to badly about it especially if they were laying off whole departments and using guards to do it, I mean you would have eventually felt that you had a monkey on your back trying to stay out of everyones way.... only for them to fire you as a perceived slacker LOL. I hope you have found something better... 7 years says your a worthy worker.
