Mom Died, You're Fired!
My mother died on my birthday, and I promptly told my boss I needed a week off from my truck driving job to fly in for her funeral. He said, "No problem, just call me when you get bacjk". I thanked him got to the airport, and attented to my family during this rough time. After the funeral, I again, called him told him about my flight back, and that I can start again the following Monday. He again said, "No problem, just call me when you get back into town". I flew in, and then called him to let him know I got back and was ready to work on Monday. He THEN said he had to hire someone else!! I asked him why, and he said, "I cant have guys wanting a week off with no notice!" I explained this was a death in the family, and he insisted he had doe the right thing by firing me. I said if you are that much of a prick, then I dont want to work for you! Later I got a job where I was for 13 years-so this turned out to be a good thing. Two years later he called me back and offered me my old job back, the choice of a shift, and I could drive any truck I wanted plus a $1000 sign on bonus. I told him I couldnt take the risk, if he fired me once he would do it again. He offered me a $5,000 boinus but I still refused. Later I heard his trucking operation had gone bust. I guess when a relative of HIS died he had to take time off without notice!!

I'm so sorry that happened to you-sucks. Take comfort in the fact that his company went bust; I'm still waiting for poetic justice for my situation!
