Hey, Have I Been Fired?

Monday morning I show up at work as usual I am sitting at my desk talking to customers and updating accounts. At noon, a FedEx package is delivered to my desk by a coworker. The package was open and the envelope inside also opened. The envelope is stamped confidential about fifty times yet opened. I look inside the envelope and there are two paychecks inside. I think to myself this is not payday what is going on, but yeah money. Then I start to open the paycheck and see the "final paycheck" stamp on the outside I thought what is this. At this exact moment, my manager is walking by my cube and I yell out hey have I been fired? Well he looked like a deer in the headlights and he just stopped and turned about five shades of red and started his mantra of meet me in a conference room. He started repeating this over and over and a brief tug of war over the paychecks and envelopes ensued. I finally went to locate him in one of the ten conference rooms we have. I sit down and he has the nerve to tell me that this is self-explanatory. I'm sorry I just had to go ask someone if I was fired you can not tell me yourself that I have been fired Seriously. I ask I'm sorry why are you firing me, of course it was not their decision but "corporate" decided that I needed to be fired. I drive a company vehicle so I need to give them my keys clean out my desk and vehicle. I was offered a taxi ride home and a box. I have just been fired I do not have the funds available for a 40 mile drive home. I had to call my sister for a ride home. I was escorted to my desk where I had to get my stuff under the scrutiny of my assistant manager and then he escorted out of the building to clean out my vehicle. While we are outside, he has the nerve to ask me what my future plans were. I am sorry up until 15 minutes ago my only plan was lunch, so I am not real sure. So I am left standing in the parking lot with my worldly possessions at my feet next to what was my car sweating to death in the hot Texas sun and waiting for my sister to drive in about an hour away to get me. If I was going to be fired why wait till noon I think being fired before getting to work is better, no traffic. I was real happy that my car had absolutely no gas in the tank I almost stopped to fill up and would have been real upset that 45.00 was in a gas tank of a car I am no longer driving.

God, that is so awful. I had a similar firing (Fired for no reason) is my story. Same deal, fired at lunchtime, escorted with my "box" to my car like a common criminal and I was there for 9 years. But, that is horrible about taking the car when you have no other way home. I am sickened by this story. I am so sorry for you to be put though that. I am still unemployed over 6 months later because I have a pending lawsuit against my former employer and cannot get a reference for any future job. They refuse to give me a reference and I have had 30+ interviews with no job offer. I am now on welfare receiving $400 a month to live on. The trial is not until October, if I live that long.
