Doctor fires Nanny of 10 yrs for getting sick!

Believe it or not, I work for a doctor that actually fired her nanny of ten years for needing a couple of sick days because she was sick/having back trouble. In her ten years of employment she had never had a sick day, and she had a doctors excuse for the two needed days off. This nanny has been like a mom to these kids and look at the thanks she has gotten. I have never felt so sorry for someone in my life! The story gets worse! After being fired, her health has gotten worse. Her back is requiring further treatment. She doesnt have health insurance, no job(no money), and no way to pay for her medications, or her regular bills. I think it is pretty bad that someone can get away with treating another human being this way! Does anyone have any advice that I can give this wonderful person? I am very concerned that she might loose everything that she has worked so hard for. (which isn't alot!)
Help, I would love some helpful advice!

    Sounds a a comp ( Workers Compensation) claim to me.

    Has that doctor never been sick? what a jerk.

    She needs to consult a lawyer but need to be careful I don't trust or have faith on them.

    each state has a labor board. if taxes were taken out of her paycheck the state will investigate any legal claims. the employer must give sick days. if taxes were not taken out and her pay was not reported i'd be careful.
