Given the boot; the Heave-Ho With No Severance

Two years ago I was fired and I still can't get past it. It was my career, my life.

I worked for a greedy, money grubbing insurance group. And, of course, I worked with sales people. Money was the bottom line. I was misled from the beginning. I was told I would receive a commision along with a base salary when I was hired. And I'm very clear when it comes to money. My commission would start in July. We agreed. I didn't get anything in writing. Live and learn. July came and went. No commission. I met with my boss.

"Oh yeah, your commission won't be paid to you until the end of the year."

I walked out of that discussion dazed. And too stupid to question it.
December came and went. January was here. No commission check. Ok, I got the message. I didn't work as hard as I should have. I started to come in late but I was salaried "plus commission". And I left early. I had a part time job to help support myself.

No commission check.

Finally, in January I had to ask my boss where was my commission. He was out of town. I went to the next person in charge; he had no idea. Uh, let's ask someone else. After waiting a few days and after he made a few phone calls--I received a lousy commission check that was an absolute joke.

Further, my boss called me in the month before and gave me a 5% raise.

I was thoroughly disgusted. Two months later I was fired because they said I was applying for jobs. Sure, I was. But not on company time as they said I did.

I worked there almost two years and I reported to four different bosses. During my employment, I had an emergency appendectomy with complications and I went home on heavy medication. One of my bosses called me the first business day I was out of the hospital and wanted me to pull up a file on my home computer. I told him I was not at my computer but laying down. Just as my doctor specified.

They called me in one morning, waved around a paper they copied from my computer and fired me. No severance. Nothing. My insurance was terminated immediately as it was the end of the month.

This particular insurance firm contains many self-centered, egomaniacs that don't care about anyone but themselves.

Never again will I work with slimy sales people.
