My story isn't funny, it kinda stinks. I am a gay male, and was working at a convenience store for the past 3 years. One night 5 minutes before closing a customer came into the store to order a sub, he called me a "bleep-ing ***". So I refused him service. He called the owner the following morning and I was fired for refusing him service. Unfortunately New York State doesn't provide protection based on sexual orientation, so I was also denied Unemployment benefits, for "misconduct"....based on the fact that the employee manual states that we are to "be kind to each customer", and by refusing him service I had acted in opposition to this rule. Just wanted to ***** about it to somebody, too bad I can't mention the company name.
