I was working for a Government Contractor. My family and I had decided the area we were living in was not a good place to live, work and raise a family, so I started courting my Alma Mater, Knox College, Galesburg IL. I wanted them to hire me as a database programmer. It took two years to court them. I informed my then current employer that I would be leaving in 30 days and would like to continue working part time from home if at all possible. They agreed. We moved in Nov. 2000. August of 2001, the work I was being sent was drying up. Our US Government project was going to get canceled. In October of 2001, I got a notice from my now part time company that I had to sell my stock in the company. We were employee owned. When I attempted calls to my boss, he was always away. At the end of October 2001, I finally got our security manager to fess up that the company had let me go to reduce the size of the company so as to still be a small business category business. I understood that part, but I was outraged that my boss, and my long time business partners (two guys I had worked with for 10 years) none of which could tell me that I had been fired. To this day, I have not spoken to any of them.
