Operation Duck Duck

Two years ago I played an April Fool's prank on my companies CFO. It was nothing spectacular but at the end of the day our CEO essentially threw down the gauntlet by commenting that because I had done nothing to him it must be because I was intimidated by him. I responded that while I respected him as my CEO, he'd asked for it when it came to the following years April Fool's Day. Over the next 12 months I thought through many different ideas and finally settled on what came to be known as "Operation Duck Duck." I purchased 1500 rubber ducks and after hours placed them in his office, completely covering it in perfectly straight lines, including desk, window sills, etc, just leaving a path to his chair. On the door I put a sign with a quote he has been heard to use "Always behave like a duck - keep calm and unruffled on the surface but paddle like the devil underneath." I also put a recording of live ducks on a loop that could be heard outside the office. When he came in the next morning I was waiting outside his office wearing a duck bill mask. Needless to say when he finally opened the door he was pretty surprised. I reminded him of what he'd said to me the year before and once he'd taken it all in he just looked at me and said "you're crazy!" He had a very good sense of humor about the whole thing -even sending an email to the entire company to come up and see it and take a duck for a keepsake - he even helped me clean it up at the end of the day. I did not get fired and he has not challenged me again. I kind of wish he would - I now know where one can rent REAL ducks! You have to see the pictures to appreciate the effect.
