Fired for working too much!

Avatar simplyforum submitted 402 days ago
I had worked at this job taking care of people in a supported living situation for almost 4 years, pretty much all thru college. I worked weekends, and often the overnight person would call in or just not show up, forcing me to work 40 hours in a row. Management was never available on weekends, and the few times they were, just told me to go ahead and sleep over.

One day, my boss called and told me not to come to work.
When I went into the office, she told me that I was fired. I had been caught "eating client's food, talking on the phone, sleeping, and running personal errands".

I brought up the point that I was working 16 hour Saturdays and 16 hour Sundays. The overnight often called in (as could be verified thru mine and her time sheets), forcing me to work 40 hours at a time. OFCOURSE I was FORCED to eat my client's food, and occasionally when I took them out on errands, I stopped by my home to quickly feed my pets and change clothes. Talking on the phone-- I needed to make arrangements when the overnight called in sick and I had to work such long hours (not to mention needing a BREAK).... Sleeping, after working 16 hours, was also perfectly understandable on such a long shift!

I didn't bring up the point that I'm a healthfood nut, and the only food I consider edible is the peanut butter and jelly (I don't eat Hamburger Helper, hotdogs, or potato chips).

When it was apparent that I really WAS being fired, I calmly left...

I contacted the supervising agency of my employer, and they investigated the matter (I had documented my sleeping, eating, talking on the phone, long work hours in the client's daily logs), and I also got the firing formally removed from my employment record.

I drew unemployment as long as I could!!!
