Undercut...by a friend!
In 1957 I was working for a Vending Company, and on Christmas Eve of that year, I was told that I was fired. When I asked "why?," I was told that, since I was making $ 1.30 an hour, my best friend (at the company) came up to me (this was the boss), and said "he would do your job for $ 1.20 an hour.
(I might have known--the "friend" eventually became a lawyer)
