The Time I Just Walked The Hell Off...

The best termination experiences I've had are the ones where I had the opportunity to just plain pitch a b*tch and walk the hell off the job.

I was working as a machine apprentice when the foreman told me that I was late every day. He didn't have to tell me; I knew I was late every day! The problem was that I didn't have a car. The bus presented two options: 30 minutes early or 5 minutes late. He told me that if I was late one more time he'd have to let me go. Hey, back then I was young and foolhardy. Thirty minutes early was not an option.

I pitched a b*tch and walked the hell off the job. Naturally I demanded my last paycheck before I left. They wouldn't give it to me. I had to return on payday. I was late.

Please Note: A certain skill is required when attempting this method of termination. You must try to be convincing in your act of defiance, but not over do it as to get arrested for disturbing the peace!

Irony: If I had continued my training process, I would have been sent to work in the largest machine tool company in the state. Not long after, the machine tool industry took a dive and the factory closed. The factory was torn down and the site sat vacant for thirty years. Now, the site is being developed into townhomes. In my present position, I manage a subcontrator that is integral to the completion of the project. Sort of like coming full circle.
