I use to work at this Community College doing whatever meaningless jobs they had open for me for 4 years. I worked with computers, in the office, and doing some audio/television work as well. One day, I went down to the bookstore and I asked one of the girls if I could have a pen. I took one from the counter (which they sell) and I borrowed the pen from the bookstore for the time being. I said that I would pay her back on Monday cause I didn't have any cash on me at the time. (I was only making $6 an hour, what do you expect?!) Anyways, after the day was over I sat outside waiting for my ride to come and pick me up, when the director of the college came out to talk with me. She asked me if I had taken a pen from the bookstore and I said yes. I told her that I was gonna pay her back on Monday (it was Friday) because I didn't have any money today. Well, she scolded me like a little boy and made me feel 2 feet tall. She told me that "We don't do that sort of thing around here an d you can't get anything on credit." I've been working there for 4 years and I've never gotten in trouble over anything. After her long lecture, she said that the college was not going to tolerate such inappropriate behavior and that today would be my last day. Imagine the shock on my face when I looked at her and I said, "Do you just want the pen back, I still have it? I don't need it that bad." Naturally she took it back from my hands, very rudely and that in turn was my last day working for the Community College. I still to this day don't see what the big deal was, but I guess she had to make her point and I was the victim. A word to the wise, if you are going to take a pen from the office....check and see if you have to pay for it or if you can put it on credit first before you walk out the door. Don't let THIS happen to YOU!
