Attendance Firing

I was in my last year of college and working full time for a HUGE retail store that everyone knows and hates. I didnt want to work inside and deal with the idiots who shop there so I transferred to the parking lot in November.

Needless to say this store was understaffed and on the weekends the baskets (though they had over 500 total of them) would constantly be running out and the customer service managers would be screaming for more carts. During Christmas it was worse. Most of the time we only had 2 people on the lot. Now with the full swing of customers coming in from Nov - Dec for xmas we were behind. Well, when our 1 hr lunch came up we would go to the boss and say "it's lunch time but those carts wont last 5 min." Our boss would then say for us to skip lunch and just leave an hour early so we didnt have overtime. We were fine with this and could manage to eat/drink outside anyway. This happened A LOT over the season. After Christmas we went back to 1hr lunches and still no staff.

My last semester I took 21 credit hours to get the hell out of college and still worked 40 hrs. (heh managed a 3.0 too). In March I needed 2 days off to finish a paper and study for 3 tests I had coming up. My boss (who was a good friend btw) said no problem. One week later, on sunday after working the entire shift by myself I get pulled into the office adn say my attendance was bad. They noted the amount of times I left early during Nov-Dec. I pointed out the reasons and that a manager told us to do it. They said it was still Excessive (sp?) and fired me.

I called my friend when I got home and asked him (since he was over my dept) if he had known. He told me they had informed him Friday that I was being fired! However, they still used me until Sunday cause they didnt have anyone to work!

I have not talked to my buddy since. I felt a little peaved that he would allow them to keep me working days after deciding to fire me because they didnt have the staff. I know he was my boss and couldnt say anything but hell, it still hurt.

I got my revenge a year later.. I worked for the same company as a second job for about 4 months and right at Christmas when I didnt need it anymore I just told the manager I quit. funny thing was I worked in Toys during christmas and was 1 out of 3 TOTAL employees who worked in Toys. THREE people in toys at christmas. And one of them was on vacation at the time.
