Was I fired...or did I quit?
I graduated high school and was excited to start the next four to five years of my life at MSU. Before classes started in the Fall, I went to campus to put in some applications so I would have a job lined up when I moved into the dorms. One of the places I went to was the dorm cafeteria. I filled out the application and talked to a supervisor and left. When I moved into the dorm, I had only heard back from one place where I filled out an application. So, I started working my paultry 10-15 hours a week. Note: The place I started working was NOT the cafeteria. Classes soon started and I was working...college life was good.
About six weeks into the semester I got the mail and in it was a work schedule for the cafeteria. It had no name on it, only the room number. Thinking that one of my roommates started working for the cafeteria, I put the notice in the mail bin and didn't think anything of it.
A couple of days after that, I got a phone message from one of my roommates stating, "Some guy called and wanted to know why you didn't go to work."
Wierd...'cause I just got home from work. Oh, well...I guess somebody got confused. But, wait...after another day passes, I get a message on the answering machine again asking why I didn't come into work. This time, I think he mentioned the cafeteria....now I was confused. But, I didn't bother returning the phone call....'cause "I was too busy."
Finally, I'm chillin' in the room and phone rings. I pick it up and this guy asks for me. After I stated who I was, this guy starts in on me wondering why I had quit. I responded that I didn't work for him. But, he was not having any of that.
"Well, if you're gonna' quit, I'm going to mark you down as Fired on the paper work and you won't be able to get another job on campus....blah, blah, blah."
"But, sir...I don't work for you. I didn't even have an interview or anything like that....besides, I already have another campus job."
"Well, I guess I'll just mark you down as fired." Click.
Huh....bummer.....oh, well, I guess I had better get to work. College life was good.
