Fun with Dick and Jane!
My husband and I got married in November 2005. My birthday was January 8 and I decided to plan a long weekend. All that week I walked around thinking to myself how fortunate we were and was truly grateful for everything happening in my life. Yeah, I had to work long hours but I was working towards having a home and a family and had decent benefits. I came in at 9am and left whenever work was completed, always until 7pm. It was worth it to me as an investment.
On Friday, January 6th at about 5:55pm the human resources director comes in and asks how I am. I said I was pretty good and asked how she was. She said that she wasn't so good because she had to come over and give bad news. So I asked if that meant she was there to tell me to leave and she said yes. She told me I would be paid up until that last day I worked but would not be getting any severance or my unused vacation including the vacation I submitted for my long weekend.
What really beats that is that a month later my husband lost his job too! The good news is we know everything is for the best and we'll get back on track.
Oh yeah, we went to see the movie Fun with Dick and Jane on January 8, my birthday 2 days after I got fired. I cried and laughed at the same time.
