Things not to say to your students

I really don't get it. Every time a teacher misbehaves with his or her students these days, it makes news. Especially if there is even a hint of sex involved.
Gregory Durio made a smattering of comments to his high school class that left his school board unanimously deciding to fire him, and a reporter plenty of money quotes from Teach that I'll share with you...
Durio was accused of and admitted to:I just live for this kind of carelessness. It makes the world a nicer place. The Futon Of Love even feels comfier today. Life is good.
-- telling a girl she could put on fishnet stockings and get a job as a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas.
-- asking a girl who wanted to leave class to use the restroom if it was because of “feminine hygiene.
-- telling a girl who told the class she enjoyed brushing her teeth with an electric toothbrush that he didn’t want to hear her 'vibrator story.'
-- telling a male student that he has a friend named Dick who was getting married to a woman named Fanny.
I can see three of the four comments having grounds for firing a teacher. The one I don't understand is the one about the "feminine hygiene". Feminine hygiene is feminine hygiene...how else are you supposed to word that one? All the others seem to have legitimate grounds for termination. Teachers are there for one reason...to teach. They are not to harass the students. One of the job requirements for a teacher, like it or not, is to watch what you say and strictly limit your speech to educational-related topics. Say what you want on your own time, but when you are being paid to do a job...hold your tongue. Think about what you say before you say it, because you could be the next front page fiasco.

When a student ask permission to go tho the restroom, the teacher has no business asking why? going to the restroom is a private matter.
The teacher was wrong, I'm happy he got fired.

I DONT THINK YOU CAN FARILY JUDGE THESE COMMENTS OUT OF CONTEXT.

Have you ever considered the consequences of repeating malicious gossip, especially when you don't have any idea whether there is any truth in what you say? I served for over 20 years with distinction and never an incident or blemish on my record. A couple of 15 year olds who would never stop chatting in class never forgave me for changing their seating assignment; I am guilty of spoiling their party. Everything you refer to is totally misconstrued or an outright lie. The girl you mention in the "Las Vegas" comment admitted at the hearing to the lie, confessed that I had not said what she accused me off. The board did not vote "unanimously"; they disagreed and were swayed into a revote by a knee jerk narcissist who actually said " how is this going to look if we don't do anything?". They didn't care that I was victimized with lies, they only cared that they appeared in the media as champions of decency. This was not a court of law, there were no rules of evidence, any one could say anything they wanted to and it was allowed. I don't know you, and you don't know me, but I will tell you I was completely innocent and took the fall because of the current climate of fear of litigation. Speaking of litigation, did you know that printing malicious statements that you cannont prove is libel?
