Citigroup not kidding about firing, but that consolidation thing was just for laughs

Posted by Fired Fred on April 13, 2007 4:11 PM
Everyone's made a big deal out of one DJ getting fired. 17,000 Citigroup people will get the deep penetrating chop as the bankers send lots of middle manager types into the job market, and probably a few coronary care units.

When Citigroup regroups, that whole consolidation thing they've been planning will be shipping US jobs overseas faster than you can say "vindaloo."
Citigroup announced April 11 it will slash its workforce by 17,000 and move 9,500 positions to lower-cost locations.

Although a Citigroup representative declined to speak on the record about the specifics of the restructuring and relocation process, Chief Executive Charles Prince indicated that India would be a likely target for expanded operations in a visit to Mumbai late last month.
"Declined to speak on the record" is doublespeak for "I'm not taking the blame for dropping this bar of Baby Ruth in the worker swimming pool."

So for you Citigroupers out there working in some financial capital like London or New York, I would advise against buying any big-screen TVs right now. Someone in Mumbai may be doing your job this year, and you're going to really wish you hadn't blown that cash on a TV when your cable service gets cut off for non-payment after Citigroup zeroes out your job.

my momma work for citi group. they fired ppl the wrong way. they took them into the managers office to have the manager talk with them, and the whole time while they were talking they had ppl boxing up their desk so when they walked out they couldnt go back to their desk, they had to have ppl come and escort people out to their cars. they did 'em dirty

i was hired two months ago by a citigroup bank in MEXICO, BANAMEX, and i started very well, getting clients to the firm, everything was right.

i understand that a company reorganization always demand to reduce costs, even when that means to say good bye to some people.

but of course there are ways to do it, i realize that i was no longer a member, when this monday i came to my office, and when i start my pc, and try to log in in a bank program to check a client status, the computer give me a message that says...." YOU ARE NO LONGER PART OF THIS INSTITUTION', not even my boss told me.

but dont worry, for smart and hard working people, there are always another opportunities.

Ive already have 2 job offers....

MARCOS, INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER, 26, MEXICO.

No one is safe. About 30 jobs from South Dakota are being sent to BudaPest. We have been told that there currently are 2 Centers of Excellence; BudaPest and Mexico City. I know it's a global company, but why isn't a city in this country classified as a Center of Excellence. We have hard working dependable and trustworthy people employed throughout this country. Just what criteria is used to define a Center of Excellence. Well anyway, I guess you could say we were lucky with the notice given last week. If we want our bonus, that they are dangling like a carrot in-front of our face, we have to stay and help train the people who will be doing our jobs. They are giving us a couple of months to put our affairs in order and get these people trained. Its better than being escorted out the door.

Hi:
This isn't a posting. I'm trying to get in contact with the site owner.
I am an attorney in San Diego, CA. Our firm specializes in representation of employees in wrongful termination and other employment law matters. we have offices throughout California as well as Las Vegas and Phoenix.
We would be interested in advertising on your site. It definitely goes with the theme of your site. We could also pass along interesting news about legal issues as we hear about anything worth knowing in the employment law arena in California. For example, UPS just reached a settlement with its employees for $87M. Another nationwide retailer just settled a case for a large sum in a confidential settlement. The California Supreme Court ruled last week that workers who had been denied mealbreaks could sue their employers back as far as four years rather than just one year which just quadrupled the damages available to many workers with cases pending.
anyway, just a thought. I'd be grateful if someone would let me know if you would allow advertising from a law firm. Thanks. Graham Hollis
