Hoops coach dribbled out of Minnesota

Dan Monson went from the helm of a 2-0 team after a couple of Cupcake City wins to a 2-5 ex-coach jettisoned by the Golden Gophers, although it's being couched as a resignation.
You be the judge. Did Coach make the ultimate sacrifice for the team as his own idea, or his boss, Joel Maturi's?...
“Dan and I met this morning, and we decided that it was in the best interests of the program that he step aside, Maturi said. “Jim Molinari will take over on an interim basis for the rest of the season. Dan took over the program at an extremely difficult time and poured his heart and soul into restoring respectability to Golden Gopher Basketball.I'll go out on a limb here and guess he was prodded to part ways. Makes it easier for him to get another job, even if he'd like to tear the old boss a new one on the way out.
Coach Dan walked into a tough job back in the 20th Century (1999) after Clem Haskins had crippled the program with all the NCAA violations he managed to rack up during his stint as Top Gopher. That was then, and this is now, and what have you done for me lately Coach? 2-5 and dumped by Montana?
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
